“A vision is not just a picture of what could be; it is an appeal to our better selves, a call to become something more.”
~Rosabeth Moss Kanter
operating as a competitive nonprofit restaurant that serves as a training conduit for otherwise marginalized employees.
Many in our community face adversities most cannot relate to, but these challenges do not need to stand in the way of steady employment.
The Hive has its sights set on the task of turning individuals of all abilities into food preparers, servers, and cooks. A major initiative of The Hive is to provide education and training for these individuals. This business plan primarily focuses on the operational aspects of The Hive as two distinct but interrelated functional organizational units: the restaurant and the employee training.
From life without many opportunities to financial independence, The Hive’s goals are enthusiastic, to say the least.
Perhaps the greatest concern of this endeavor is balancing both sides of the coin: the mission and the business. The Hive as an organization will focus first on being a successful restaurant. The success of each component requires extra care and effort; however, with a well-defined plan, the community’s support and a staff with a vision, this tightrope can be successfully maneuvered and the mission well served.
The outlook for the future of southern Wisconsin is promising. Janesville has several organizations set up to cultivate, encourage and support new businesses to “set up shop” in the downtown area.
The Hive hopes to energize Rock County and create a vibrant community!
